Our words have power. Jesus, the One who spoke the word “light” and out of the darkness it was so, also spoke to a fig tree “may no one ever eat fruit from you again” and the next day the tree withered from the roots. In the same way, our words have the power to bring life or death to others. We must always choose the words we speak very carefully, considering the weight of their power. Jesus found himself hanging on another cursed tree, on the cross he voluntarily endured for us. Here we see life Himself choosing to speak life over his enemies and not curses when he said “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Let us also make the choice to speak life over our friends and more purposefully over our enemies.

Jesus says: “Can all your worries add a single moment to your life? And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things? Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you.” Luke 12:25-28
